Dingle Way Challenge
Hiiker route covering the Dingle Way Challenge, Co. Kerry. GPX Download.
The Dingle Way Challenge is organised by St. Pat’s GAA in Blennerville and is a one-day walking event on the Dingle Peninsula in Co. Kerry over either a 33km (standard) or 46km (ultra) distance. This is the first year I participated, but don’t think it will be the last.
Meeting point is at Blennerville GAA grounds and if doing the ultra distance you are bussed out to Glenahoo and if doing the standard distance you are bussed to Annascaul to start the trek.
Strictly speaking the 1st leg on the ultra route from Glenahoo to Annascaul is not part of the Dingle Way but this leg offers some stunning scenery as you trapse up the extensive glacial valley.
The Annascaul to Camp and Camp to Blennerville legs are indeed part of the regular Dingle Way loop and again offer some incredible scenery onto Inch and then over Tralee Bay as you cross back to the northern side of the peninsula.
46km in a day is no mean achievement and the feet were certainly hot after completion. The full Dingle Way is a 6 to 8 day (depending on how far you walk each day and whether you take rest days) circular route around the Dingle Peninsula. I will certainly be back to close that one out!
See you in Blennerville next year?
