River Slaney
So, it turns out I knew little about the River Slaney. I associated it with the sunny south-east of course, but little did I know that it’s source was on the western flank of Lugnaquilla in Wicklow.
Not just that, but it’s source is within the Glenn of Imall military range, making accessing the source next to impossible - unless I join the army!
I have the option of starting the journey as the river leaves the military range, however, there is a sister tributary called the Little Slaney that also has it’s source on the flanks of Lugnaquilla, but not within the military range. So, this will be my proposed starting point (assuming I find it).
The two, Slaney and Little Slaney actually meet at Davidstown and I guess that is where the true Slaney journey will begin true and proper.
